In a brilliant six-week span, BORREGO romped in G1 stakes in both New York and California. Although his career is best marked by those gaudy victories, BORREGO consistently campaigned for three seasons at the highest levels. First starting in October of his 2-year-old year, he won twice as a juvenile, first in a maiden special weight on turf and then in an allowance on the dirt. He finished second in his first three starts as a sophomore, all in stakes -- including the Arkansas Derby-G2 and Louisiana Derby-G2, before running into Smarty Jones in the Kentucky Derby-G1 and Preakness-G1. BORREGO added still more blacktype to his resume before the year ended, including in the Super Derby-G2. BORREGO opened his 4-year-old campaign with a Santa Anita win, then marched through the handicap division garnering blacktype in races like the Santa Anita H.-G1 and Hollywood Gold Cup-G1 prior to his sensational scores in the Pacific Classic-G1 and Jockey Club Gold Cup-G1.

BORREGO is by the illustrious Sadler’s Wells son El Prado (IRE). His dam is a half-sister to Canadian champion Truth of It All and U.S. multiple G1 winner I Ain’t Bluffing. Stakes horses are sprinkled liberally throughout his family.

BORREGO's first weanlings brought up to a whopping $175,000 and averaged $78,750 through Keeneland November's Book Five! Watch for his first yearlings in 2008.
