In the spotlight for all the world to see as the winner of the 2008 Churchill Downs S.-G2 on Kentucky Derby Day, ELITE SQUADRON put on quite a show, getting the seven furlongs in a smashing 1:21 2/5 and romping to a 4 1/2 length victory. The way he won was even more impressive: gate-to-wire with blazing early fractions of :21 4/5 and :43 3/5. And he still won going away. It wasn't his only top-class performance either, as the handsome chestnut won or placed in six stakes (five graded). He closed his career by pushing Street Boss, the eventual third-place finisher in the Breeders' Cup Sprint-G1, within a half-length of the wire in the prestigious Triple Bend Invitational H.-G1. ELITE SQUADRON tangled with some of the top sprinters of his generation and was first or second in stakes on four distinct surfaces: dirt, Polytrack, Cushion Track, and Tapeta.
By the brilliant Champagne-G1 winner Officer, who devastated opponents as a 2-year-old and is quickly becoming a highly-respected young sire, ELITE SQUADRON won more than $500,000. He hails from a solid and prolific blacktype female family, starting with his own precocious stakes-winning dam and continuing back through the generations.
ELITE SQUADRON'S FIRST FOALS ARRIVE IN 2010.
